The Ottawa-Carleton Assembly of School Councils (OCASC) is the umbrella organization representing school councils and parents across the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB).
Our mission is to share information, strengthen communication, and enhance the educational experience of every student in the OCDSB.
OCASC fulfills its mission through three key roles:
We connect school councils through regular meetings and our public Facebook group, where members exchange experiences, ideas, challenges, solutions, and best practices.
OCASC representatives participate on a variety of OCDSB committees to ensure two-way communication—keeping councils informed about board initiatives and bringing member perspectives directly to decision-makers.
We advocate for school councils by maintaining open dialogue with OCDSB board leadership and staff, and by contributing member feedback through our committee representatives.
For full details on our structure and mandate, please see our [OCASC Constitution].
OCASC meets on the third Thursday of each month from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Meetings are held in hybrid or virtual format to maximize accessibility—with the exception of the year-end May meeting, which is held in person to encourage social connection and celebration.
Information about upcoming meetings is posted under the “OCASC Meetings” tab on our website, emailed to OCASC representatives, and shared on our Facebook page.
OCASC welcomes all school councils from across the OCDSB—including elementary, middle, secondary, alternative, adult, and specialized schools.
Each council is encouraged to elect or appoint one delegate to represent them at OCASC meetings. It is also encouraged to name a second delegate as an alternate in case the primary representative cannot attend or participate regularly.
Meetings are open to the public, but membership allows councils to participate fully and vote on issues that guide OCASC’s actions.
This contribution helps cover for example:
A fee waiver is available for any council with financial constraints.

Thank you for being part of OCASC. Together, we strengthen communication, collaboration, and community across all OCDSB schools.
